Soul to Sole Exhibition, Croome

Very excited to have finished my film and today I'm at Croome putting everything together. Last week I met Alice Padley who kindly allowed me entry to film the currently derelict Red Wing at Croome, where the servants' quarters were… Shoemaker Maud van den Broecke has completed third housemaid Sarah Gellert's white leather boots and I'm meeting her today. See her excellent blog here…

Soul to Sole Exhibition, Croome

Everything is underway... Boots being crafted from white leather, box insert being made- as Croome is a listed building- and a lot of filming has been taking place.. After my first visit of getting lost and locked inside the house and then once out- meeting barbed wire fences and having to retrace miles of steps- I'm now both able to find my way around and eventually leave!

Soul to Sole Exhibition, Croome

Very excited to have been commissioned by the National Trust for this project for which I'm going to be making a film to be projected over a pair of specially handmade boots. I've been researching a woman called Sarah Gellert who was a third housemaid at Croome in the 1860's. Born in Hammersmith, London c. 1805 and once the wife of a 'Receiving Officer' and mother to Emily; she left her family in Brackley, Northants and, after a visit back to the place where she originated with 'no occupation', came to work at Croome, where in 1868 she was paid £1 to return home. Sadly by 1871 she was 'Chargeable to Northampton Justices' and was residing in the District Pauper Lunatic Asylum in Powick, Worcs. I was at Croome yesterday and having shared some of Sarah's footsteps, couldn't help trying to imagine what life might have been like for Sarah during her time there...

Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham

Work at the QEH was completed last year and is now permanently installed throughout the corridors, consultation rooms, waiting rooms and areas of the new Critical Care department.

I now have two more hospital commissions under way...
